GTD, Toodledo, and Windows Phone, reviews on every app that syncs with Toodledo.

Overview-
So you just bought a Windows Phone (I have the HTC Radar), you sync with Toodledo, and are familiar or heavily invested in the concepts of GTD. If these apply to you then keep reading. Just switching to Windows Phone and needing an app that syncs with Toodledo and uses GTD, I set out to find the best one and pick apart what each does well and could do better. All of these apps sync with Toodledo, thats basically the only real similarity they have between them.  I then used common GTD concepts to see if these apps could meet those standards. On Android I use DGT GTD which is probably the best app for GTD(in my opinion) and syncing with Toodledo.  It is is clean, easy to use, incredibly feature rich, and it allows you to use GTD in a number of different ways. On the TouchPad and Playbook I use Toodletasks which is a great app as well. My initial conclusion for these Window phone apps is that they are still lacking. One app has a must have feature that another one lacks and vice versa, there is no one app that is good across the board. None of these I could fully recommend, but if your on windows phone you really have no choice. Let’s dive in…
2day
Pros-
Live tile for adding tasks
Sync works right on startup
Can add actions for contact such as call, email, text, or visit
App tile shows how many tasks are due today
Good developer support
Manual sync
Cons-
No contexts, essential for GTD
No tags, also essential
Not the best interface, lots of small icons and colors, can be overwhelming
Some syncing issues
No search
No notifications
Conclusion-
There are just not enough features in this app to recommend it.  Also for me the app just has to much going on and it is hard to look it.
Tile Tasks
Pros-
Notifications, can make a large tile, speech to text, voice notes, nice UI, sync works well

Cons-
No search or sorting options, sync works okay, only supports folders, no status or context support
Conclusion-
Tile tasks has a ton of potential, the UI is done very nice and it is extremely easy to use. It also has some unique features like putting 2  live tiles next to each other to make a large one. You can also shake to sync which is cool. Unfortunately it lacks a lot of GTD functionality and for the way I use it makes it almost useless. There is no search or sorting options except for due dates and projects which can work, but nearly all of my tasks don’t have due dates and I only have a few folders. I use tags more so my tasks aren’t stock in one place. There is also no status option for making next actions nor is there context support.
Metro Task
Pros-Tile for adding tasks, live tile works well, tags, customizable tile, contexs(!), good interface
Cons- No manual sync ,can’t set priority,no subtasks support, extremely basic UI, easy to understand but nothing really to do, no repeat, syncing issues
Conclusion-
The interface on this app is very clean which for some will be really beneficial   There are some real positive things with this app, but at the same time there are some real key features that hold it back from being able to recommend.
EverTask
Pros-Has contexts and status such as next action

Clean and easy to use
Manual Sync
Good developer support
Still a new app
Cons-
No search
No spell check
No subtasks or tags, although tags will be added
Can’t set repeating tasks
No notifications
Conclusion-
EverTask has a very supportive developer and I have actually been in contact with him and he has already updated the app a couple of times.  This interface is very clean too and it looks like a lot of key GTD features are coming in the near future.  This app would probably be my 2nd choice.
Viperal Tasks
Pros-
Contexts, project support, subtasks, search, goals, status, notes, and tags, notifications
Cons-
Syncing issues(seemed to have stopped), a clean but basic UI, no tiles
Conclusion-
Viperal Tasks (not a fan of the name) is the most feature rich application that syncs with Toodledo. Every major feature is supported from tags, contexts, next actions, projects, and goals. There is even a search option! How this is missing from every other app is beyond me. So this should be the best app bar none it sounds like right? Not so fast. The lack of tile support is disappointing. Its nice to have a quick option to add a task. The syncing issues I experienced didn’t help, but those have seem to subsided.
Final Conclusion-
As I stated before, all of these apps are missing something that keeps them out of that definite must have app status.  However for productivity needs and most key features, Viperal Tasks wins out for now.  Why no other app besides this one has search is beyond me.  Evertask would be my second choice since the app does show potential and has a good developer.  MetroTasks would be third, mostly based on potential. If you have a windows phone and use one of these apps, what do you think?

  1. For implementing GTD you can use this application:

    Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, and a calendar.
Syncs with Evernote and Google Calendar, and also comes with mobile version, and Android and iPhone apps.
